Research Summary :

Dr. Mukta Avachat-Shirke is a practising professional visual artist since 2008. She has several national-level awards to her credit and participated in numerous national and international juried and curated exhibitions. As such and on return from her visit to the UK on a short study tour she found a glaring absence of practice and practical aspects in visual arts research in the country. Understanding the inadequacy of purely theory-driven systems for visual arts, she thus based her Doctorate (PhD) in practice-based research and pedagogies for arts-based research from SNDT Women’s University. Her topic was ‘The Pedagogical Approach of Practice-Based Research in Indian Art Education’. Apart from this, she is keenly researching other aspects of visual arts education, culture study, visual Arts history and research methodology all in the bid to make learning, teaching and researching more well-rounded in the domain. Dr. Mukta has also handled the responsibility of being a research coordinator, research accelerator and guide apart from teaching design students at VU since 2018. She has written papers in national level journals, participated in international level conferences and has written some book chapters under her name. Practice driven teaching is her forte.
